I’ve never been down Old Potato Road, which lies somewhere between Austin and Bastrop, Texas. But the sound makes me think that the area was once farm country where the main crop may have been potatoes. It has a down home, comfortable connotation, not like some of the other oddly named streets around the country.
Every small town seems to have a Main Street, First Street, Maple and various other tree names on their streets, some as lack luster as North, South, and High Streets.
I grew up on a street called Sunset Road in Mayfield Heights which was not remarkable in any way. In Garfield Heights there is a Sunset Drive which is a winding asphalt road lined with old tall trees and gullies instead of curbs. Sunset Drive is very beautiful, thanks to the trees, in any season. The street slopes downward, then uphill and loops around and turns back into itself.
