On either side of the door going into the coffee shop next to Schroeder’s Drug Store in downtown Cleveland, just before the Public Square, was a tall thin man in renaissance garb pointing to the words over the doorway, “As you amble through life, my brother, keep your eye upon the doughnut, and not upon the hole.” Both of those establishments have been long gone, making way for the lobby of what is now the BP building. As I have ambled through the years, I have shared that advice now and then and try to remind myself of that when I start slipping down as the tests keep adding up.
