It is raining
Rain is falling straight down,
like water through a sieve.
The sound is soft – comforting.
The street sounds wet as
vehicles roll by.
The canal is already dry,
the winter’s snow and rain
saturated into the floor,
greening the weeds that flourished
after the drought of 2012.
Where did the floods from 2010
go, when both the canal and the Cuyahoga River
spilled over their parallel banks, flooding the
businesses in Valley View, again.
There was talk among city planners of opening
the canal to canoes and kayaks.
Not this summer, from the looks of it.
